As part of Carers Week, this online presentation will focus on the latest research findings on this topic with cancer carers on hand to share their experiences of how counselling has helped them.
Having a loved one receive a diagnosis of cancer is an extremely stressful life event that is difficult to cope with.
Carers, friends or family, often provide the majority of the physical and emotional support required by the cancer patients but the burden of this on carers often goes unnoticed. Whilst caring can be rewarding it can also be immensely demanding, particularly if the ill person is approaching the end of their life. Counselling can provide a real lifeline to the carer:
It can help manage the distress the carer feels.
It can outline coping strategies for how to manage the really difficult times.
It can provide a vital forum for opening up about how you are really feeling.
And provide an opportunity for offloading and release.
